Doktorandenseminar
PhD-talk: Thomas Oppermann
Influence of Particle Shape on Lidar Optical Properties
Mineral dust is the most abundant aerosol in the atmosphere. Hence, it plays an important role in atmospheric processes. To learn more about the microphysical properties of dust, optical lidar measurements can be used. However, the inversion from optical to microphysical properties is a large source of uncertainty, because available dust scattering models fail to accurately reproduce the observed backscattering properties of dust. The goal of this PhD project in the scope of OLALA (Optical Lab for Lidar Applications) is to use laboratory measurements to improve the accuracy of optical models used for dust scattering.
